When Nature, Maths and Art Collide: Katy Ann Gilmore

Geometric visual artist Katy Ann Gilmore is one to keep an eye on, with her obsession with lines, repetition and strong work ethic she is progressing her practice with strong ambition. Gilmore studied Mathematics, Art and Spanish at Greenville College in Greenville, IL, and consequently gained an MFA in Visual Art from Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, CA. Her hybrid background between Maths and Art have formed a perfect combination of precision and creativity.

She currently resides in Los Angeles creating large, hand drawn murals of geometric beauty, illustrated two-dimension paper works and the occasional three-dimensional line-based sculptures. With her discipline influenced heavily by “topography and the relationship between 2D, perpendicular planes and their distortions into 3D space”, Gilmore entwines imagery of nature and landscapes with geometric gestures to create illusionary landscapes inspired by her new LA surroundings.
